Abstract
Two ferredoxin-dependent enzymes involved in the photosynthetic assimi lation of nitrogen, nitrite reductase (EC 1.7.7.1) and glutamate synth ase (EC 1.4.7.1) from Chlorella fusca have been shown to use either fe rredoxin or flavodoxin (from the same organism) as electron donor. Nit rite reductase showed K-m values of 13.8 +/- 0.9 mu M for ferredoxin a nd 30.4 +/- 7.8 mu M for flavodoxin. Glutamate synthase exhibited a K- m of 6.6 +/- 1.2 mu M for ferredoxin compared to a calculated K-m of 2 2.4 +/- 6.4 mu M for flavodoxin.
