Abstract
Chelates of chromium(III) with phthiocol (3-methyllawsone), lawsone (2 -hydroxy-1,4-naphthalenedione), 3-chlorolawsone and their 1-oxime deri vatives have been syn thesized and characterized. They exhibit the gen eral formula CrL3 . 3H(2)O and magnetic moments close to 3.87 B.M. ind icating trivalent chromium. IR spectral data suggest that lawsone deri vatives exhibit coordinating OO system, while lawsone-1-oxime derivati ves present NO system. Octahedral geometry for chelates has been sugge sted.
