Abstract
Impingement is a common occurrence in nature and in our modern world. Rays of sunlight impinge on the earth's surface. Bar codes on products bought in stores are identified by an impinging laser beam. Radar is based on impinging microwaves. Ships and submarines monitor each other with impinging sound waves. Cleaning a car at the car wash involves a n impinging jet of water. Impingement heating and cooling of food have appeared relatively late but are making up for lost time.
