Abstract
Boc(2)O and DMAP were used to protect hindered phenols as their Boc de rivatives under mild conditions. Deprotection conditions were develope d to suppress loss of a tert-butyl group from the aromatic ring, or al kylation of an additional tert-butyl group at an unsubstituted ortho o r para position.
