C. Baillard et al., EXTRACTION AND TEXTURAL CHARACTERIZATION OF ABOVEGROUND AREAS FROM AERIAL STEREO PAIRS - A QUALITY ASSESSMENT, ISPRS journal of photogrammetry and remote sensing, 53(2), 1998, pp. 130-141
Above-ground analysis is a key point to the reconstruction of urban sc
enes, but it is a difficult task because of the diversity of the invol
ved objects. We propose a new method to above-ground extraction from a
n aerial stereo pair, which does not require any assumption about obje
ct shape or nature. A Digital Surface Model is first produced by a ste
reoscopic matching stage preserving discontinuities, and then processe
d by a region-based Markovian classification algorithm. The produced a
bove-ground areas are finally characterized as man-made or natural acc
ording to the grey level information. The quality of the results is as
sessed and discussed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserv
