Abstract
A new bacterial leaf blight disease of parthenium (Parthenium hysterop horus L.) is described for the first time. The disease-causing bacteri um was isolated and its morphological, physiological and biochemical c haracters were determined. The pathogenicity of bacterium is apparentl y limited only to parthenium. The pathogen was identified as Xanthomon as campestris pv. parthenii pathovar nov. on the basis of morphologica l, physiological, biochemical and pathogenic characteristics.
