Two series of new quinoline derivatives have been-prepared by treating
2-methyl-4-chloroquinolines (V) and 2-methyl-4-chloroacetyloxyquinoli
nes (VI) with sodium salts of 2-arylamino-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole
s (III) to give 2-arylamino-1,3,4-thiadiazol-5-thio-yl)-quinolines (VI
Ia-g) and mino-1,3,4-thiadiazol-5-thio-acetyloxy)-quinolines (VIIIa-g)
. The compounds have been tested for antifungal activity against Helmi
ntho-sporum species, antibacterial against Bacillus subtilis and antiv
iral against Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV) invitro in its respective host
Datura stramonuim L.
