We report on the experimental program with polarized electrons and pol
arized few-body systems at the internal target facility of the NIKHEF
electron storage ring. With a polarized deuterium internal target, abs
olute measurements of unprecedented accuracy have been performed for t
he analyzing powers T-20 and T-22 in elastic electron-deuteron scatter
ing at transferred four-moments 1.1 < Q < 2.8 fm(-1). Results for a fi
rst measurement of the tensor analyzing power ill quasi-elastic scatte
ring are also presented. These data provide new constraints for descri
ptions of the deuteron spin structure and for reaction mechanism effec
ts. Quasi-elastic electron scattering from polarized He-3 mag provide
precise information on the S' and the D-wave parts of the He-3 ground-
state wave function, the neutron form factors, and the role of spin-de
pendent reaction mechanism effects. We have started an experimental pr
ogram at NIKHEF where polarized He-3 and polarized electrons are used,
in combination with large acceptance electron and hadron detectors. D
ata were taken for the transverse (A(y)(O)) and longitudinal (A(z)('))
asymmetries at Q similar or equal to 2 fm(-1). We outline the performa
nce of the target and detectors.
