Abstract
Given a finite group G, let pi(e)(G) denote the set of all orders of e lements in G. In this paper, we investigate the relation between the n umber of primes and that of composite numbers in pi(e)(G) and obtain a criterion for the simplicity of finite groups. (C) 1997 Academic Pres s.
