The synchronization of spatiotemporal chaos of two asymmetrically coup
led map lattices is studied by numerical simulations. It is found that
the synchronization can be achieved by linking two spatially extended
systems with a common signal or signals through one-site connections.
The synchronized states are found to be closely related to the approa
ches used to synchronize the most upstream sites of the two spatially
extended systems. The effects of small backward diffusions and the loc
al disturbances on the development of the synchronized states are also
discussed.
