Jm. Lopez et al., CERVICAL LYMPH-NODE ENLARGEMENT DUE TO KI KUCHI AND FUJIMOTO-DISEASE - REPORT OF ONE CASE, Revista Medica de Chile, 125(3), 1997, pp. 323-327
Kikuchi and Fujimoto disease is a benign subacute necrotizing lymphade
nitis, probably associated to a viral infection, that affects mostly y
oung Asian women. We report a 19 years old woman with a vast familiar
history of thyroid disease (three uncles with papillary thyroid carcin
oma and one with a Hashimoto thyroiditis). After an upper respiratory
infection, she presented with painless cervical adenopathies. Cervical
ultrasound examination detected an 8 mm thyroidal nodule. She was ope
rated with the diagnosis of thyroidal cancer. The pathological examina
tion confirmed that the nodule was a papillary thyroidal cancer, but t
he study of the resected lymph nodes, revealed a Kikuchi and Fujimoto
disease.
