We describe here that the HXK2 gene product, isoenzyme Pn of hexokinas
e, is located in both the nucleus and the cytoplasm of Saccharomyces c
erevisiae cells. This conclusion is supported by assays of hexokinase-
specific activity in isolated nuclei from wild-type and hxk1lhxk2 doub
le mutant strains, by immunoblot experiments using anti-Hxk2 antibodie
s and by observation of the fluorescence distribution of a Hsk2-GFP fu
sion protein in cells transformed with the HXK2::gfp gene. (C) 1998 Fe
