Nv. Kozhevnikov et al., KINETICS OF EMULSIFIER-FREE EMULSION BUTYL ACRYLATE COPOLYMERIZATION WITH WATER-SOLUBLE MONOMERS, CHEMICAL PHYSICS REPORTS, 16(12), 1997, pp. 2217-2225
The effect of temperature, monomer composition, and initiator concentr
ation on the kinetics of emulsifier-free emulsion butyl acrylate copol
ymerization with acrylonitrile and methacrylic acid, dispersion proper
ties, mechanisms of formation and stabilization of latex particles are
studied. It is found that qualitatively the effect of the above-indic
ated factors on the reactions of chain growth and termination in water
is the same as in polymerization in the presence of emulsifier. But t
he role of the aforesaid elementary reactions in the polymerization pr
ocess and the conditions of particle stabilization alter, which gives
rise to different kinetic effects.
