Abstract
Aphaenogaster umphreyi, n. sp., is described from sandy uplands of pen insular Florida. It appears to be closely related to A. fulva Roger. T he new species, which may be entirely subterranean in habits, is chara cterized by unusually small eyes, coarse sculpture, short propodeal sp ines, and unusually small hind tibial spurs.
