D. Shindo et al., APPLICATION OF ELECTRON HOLOGRAM TO MORPHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF SPINDLE-TYPE HEMATITE PARTICLES, Materials transactions, JIM, 39(2), 1998, pp. 322-324
In order to investigate morphology of spindle-type hematite (alpha-Fe2
O3) particles, electron holograms were observed with imaging plates us
ing a transmission electron microscope (TEM) equipped with a field emi
ssion gun and a biprism. Crystal thickness estimated by the shift of i
nterference fringes agrees well with the value expected from the shape
of the particle. Furthermore, local fluctuation of the interference f
ringes due to the particle morphology indicates the fluctuation of abo
ut 18 nm. These results clearly demonstrate that observation of hologr
ams with new recording systems such as imaging plates is promising to
characterize the detailed morphology of small particles.
