F. Naccari et al., TOLERANCE AND PHARMACOKINETICS OF CIPROFLOXACIN IN THE CHICK - PRELIMINARY EXPERIENCE IN SUBJECTS OF PEDIATRIC AGE WITH URINARY-TRACT INFECTIONS (UTI), Research communications in molecular pathology and pharmacology, 99(2), 1998, pp. 187-192
We studied the tolerance and pharmacokinetic parameters of ciprofloxac
in in (2 mg/kg, i.v.) in 45 chicks. Serum concentrations of ciprofloxa
cin at various times of drawing (15 min, 30 min, 1hr, 3hr, 6hr, 8hr an
d 12hr) peaked in the first 15 min with a trough after 6hr, and were c
ompletely absent after 8hr. We found no neurotoxic effects or behavior
al changes. Encouraged by a good tolerance for this quinolone, we cond
ucted a preliminary study concerning the therapeutic efficacy of cipro
floxacin in 8 subjects of pediatric age (8-14 years) with urinary trac
t infections (UTI) that are resistant to classic antibiotics. The resu
lts and normality of hematologic parameters, checked before and after
therapy, allow us to recommend the monitored use of ciprofloxacin in c
hildren with UTI resulting from bacteria resistant to other antibiotic
s.
