Ap. Saab et Gd. Stucky, CHARACTERIZATION OF C-60-BASED SOLID-ELECTROLYTE, AND COMPOSITIONAL DEPENDENCE OF THE HUMIDITY SENSING EFFECT, Fullerene science and technology, 6(2), 1998, pp. 243-257
Bulk C-60-based solid electrolyte is shown to consist of two distinct
compound fractions, hydrophobic and hydrophilic. Analysis of the fract
ions by FT-IR and UV-Vis absorbance, and mass spectrometry, indicate t
hey contain true fullerene derivatives such as alcohols, acids, and et
hers. The separated components can be recombined in solution and spin
coated into thin films, which display humidity sensitive conductivity.
By varying the hydrophobic:hydrophilic content ratio, the humidity re
sponse behavior of these films can be adjusted.
