An analytical method has been developed for determination of C-10-chlo
roparaffines with 4-6 chlorine atoms in technical products and in fish
oil samples. After clean-up with gel permeation chromatography and mi
ni silica gel column a pre-quantification has been achieved by high re
solution gas chromatography-electron capture detection (HRGC-ECD). Def
inite identification and quantification has then been completed with h
igh resolution gas chromatography-mass spectrometry using negative che
mical ionization (HRGC-MS-ECNI). For the first time, pure C-10-chloroa
lkanes with different degrees of chlorination (2,5,6,9-tetrachlorodeca
ne-3 diastereoisomers, 1,2,9,10-tetrachlorodecane-1 diastereoisomer, 1
,2,5,6,9-pentachlorodecane-2 diastereoisomers, and 1,2,5,6,9,10-hexach
lorodecane-2 diastereoisomers) were used as standards. Average recover
y with HRGC-ECNI was higher than 97%. The described method is recommen
ded for routine analysis in official supervisions.
