Scheduling is a prevalent function that is omnipresent throughout many
industries and applications (Pinedo, 1995; Morton & Pentico, 1993; Zw
eben & Fox, 1994; Brown & Scherer, 1995). A great need exists for deve
loping scheduling toolkits that carl be generically applied to a numbe
r of different scheduling problems. To meet this need, more research i
s warranted for developing a state-of-the-art generic constraint probl
em-solver as related to scheduling. This paper discusses the developme
nt and resting of the Generically Used Expert Scheduling System (GUESS
).
