Abstract
The oxidation of polymeric model compounds was investigated and the re sults are given in this paper. Samples were oxidized in air atmosphere at temperatures up to 500 degrees C. A differential scanning calorime try system (DSC) was used to determine thermo-analytical curves of the polymer compounds. The structure of oxidized polymeric compounds was investigated using FTIR spectroscopy to determine the changes which oc cur. For similar polymeric compounds, the oxidation peaks were observe d at nearly the same temperatures. At about 208 degrees C there was a decrease in carbonyl groups. As the oxidation temperature was increase d, the carbonyl band started to disappear. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science L td. All rights reserved.
