M. Morita et al., STRUCTURAL DIVERSITY OF THE MEMBRANE CORE LIPIDS OF EXTREME HALOPHILES, Bioscience, biotechnology, and biochemistry, 62(3), 1998, pp. 596-598
The structural diversity of the core lipids of extreme halophiles Halo
arcula japonica and Halobacterium halobium was investigated. The most
significant difference is that Ha. japonica contains sn-2,3-di-O-phyta
nlglycerol exclusively as the core lipid, whereas Hb. halobium contain
s both sn-2,3-di-O-phytanylglycerol and sn-2-O-sestertepanyl 1,15,19-p
entamethyleicosanyl)3-O-phytanylglycerol.
