The introduction of this review mentions the attributes of chloroplast
s in general and of some specialist kinds. The actual review describes
briefly the evolution of chloroplasts, the morphology and structure o
f chloroplasts, and also features that they uniquely possess. Fluoresc
ence confocal subtractive images are used to demonstrate the best in v
ivo imaging with the highest resolution attained so far in vivo. An el
ectron micrograph image is used to look at features of a dividing chlo
roplast. The review discusses aspects of greening, as well as structur
al and morphological interpretations of chloroplasts. Types of chlorop
lasts are described and illustrated, and the functional organisation o
f the chloroplast is briefly addressed. Chloroplast movement and divis
ion are shortly treated. The review concludes with unresolved problems
and suggested approaches to their solution.
