Abstract
Conditions of synthesis, composition, and structure of acidic heterogl ycan produced by the yeast Sporobolomyces albo-rubescens VKM Y-2450 we re studied. The culture synthesized 5.5 g/l of the exopolysaccharide o n medium containing glucose and an organic nitrogen source at neutral pH values. The polysaccharide consists of mannose, glucose, and glucur onic acid in a ratio of 1 : 2 : 2. The polymer is a branched high mole cular a-combined heteroglycan in which 1,3-glycoside bonds predominate (58%). Exopolysaccharides of similar composition and structure have n ot previously been revealed in representatives of the family Sporobolo mycetaceae.
