M. Severin et al., GRANULAR CORNEAL-DYSTROPHY - TREATMENT WITH SOFT CONTACT-LENSES, Graefe's archive for clinical and experimental ophthalmology, 236(4), 1998, pp. 291-294
Perforating keratoplasty was performed in both eyes of two siblings (s
ister and brother) with typical granular corneal dystrophy. Three of t
he operated eyes showed a recurrence of the underlying disease. In one
eye, a recurrence could not be detected 14 years after the operation.
This eye had been fitted with a contact lens 16 months after keratopl
asty because of aphakia. Thus a contact lens may have a therapeutic ef
fect in this primary epithelial disease.
