Z. Lin et K. Hattori, INHERITANCE OF HIGH SHOOT REGENERATION ABILITY FROM SEED CALLUS IN A RICE CULTIVAR JOSHU, Ikushugaku Zasshi, 48(1), 1998, pp. 41-44
The genetic control of regeneration from rice seed callus in a highly
regenerating rice cultivar Joshu was studied. The reciprocal F(1)s, F-
2, B1F1 and B1F2 populations from the crosses of Joshu with the low re
generating cultivars (Moritawase and Norin 1) were tested for their re
generation ability, which was expressed by shoot regeneration rate. Th
e results revealed that the high regeneration ability in Joshu was con
trolled by a dominant and a recessive gene independently and expressio
n of any one of the two genes or both of them would result in high reg
eneration ability. The allelism test indicated that the dominant gene
in Joshu was the same allele as in Aikoku which we reported previously
. Moreover, there was no reciprocal cross difference on regeneration a
bility in this study.
