A hybrid four layer guide (FLG) including a glass guide and a 2-docosy
lamino-5-nitropyridine Langmuir-Blodgett film is described, and some t
ests are reported on an electro-optic modulator based on this FLG. The
modulation of laser diode light was obtained by guided mode interfere
nce, without a Mach-Zehnder configuration of the device. From the modu
lated signal the r(22) electro-optic coefficient was calculated as 11
pm/V. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics.
