Abstract
In this study, we report on the preparation of hydroxyapatite (HAP) pl asma powders, and then we show the crystallographic, morphologic, mech anical properties and solubility properties of plasma sprayed coatings made from different powders. Researchers have worked out and publishe d several methods to prepare HAP. Out of the published methods, we sel ected the 5 Ca(NO3)(2) + 3 (NH4)(2)HPO4 + 4 NH4OH --> Ca-5(PO4)(3)OH 10 NH4NO3 + 3 H2O reaction to prepare HAP plasma powder, as we were a ble to prepare bioceramics of the desired porosity with the enhancemen t of that method according to our CO 4B 35/447 (1996) patent.
