The paper demonstrates the ability to create a novel semifluidized bed
reactor for gas-fluidized ferromagnetic particles. The semifluidizati
on has been achieved by means of a top restraining non-magnetic screen
and a solenoid around it. The principal characteristics of the magnet
ic semifluidization are that the top restraining screen has an apertur
e greater than the size of the fluidized particles. An experimental st
udy on the mechanics of the magnetic semifluidization has been carried
out. Data correlations for the minimum and maximum semifluidization v
elocities and the pressure drop have been developed in terms of variou
s system parameters.
