207 subjects from social occupations with an average age of 37 years w
ere retrospective questioned on motives for occupational choice, emoti
ons and attitudes when entering their job as well as occupational disa
ppointments. The degree of burnout was measured. Structural analysis u
sing LISREL showed that only ''unrealistic aspirations'' related with
burnout. Enthusiasm. involvement, commitment, identification with the
job, career expectations and other variables had no significance for b
urnout.
