Abstract
207 subjects from social occupations with an average age of 37 years w ere retrospective questioned on motives for occupational choice, emoti ons and attitudes when entering their job as well as occupational disa ppointments. The degree of burnout was measured. Structural analysis u sing LISREL showed that only ''unrealistic aspirations'' related with burnout. Enthusiasm. involvement, commitment, identification with the job, career expectations and other variables had no significance for b urnout.
