Abstract
A finite-difference procedure which requires the use of virtual and du plicate nodes is presented. This procedure incorporates the Neumann an d Dirichlet boundary conditions into the two-dimensional Hehnholtz equ ation. Comparisons made with analytic solutions for waveguide modes in dicate that robust solutions can be obtained with a low mesh density. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
