Abstract
The emission spectrum from a fluorescent microdroplet is compared with theory for the first time. The spectrum of oriented surfactant molecu les on a levitated microdroplet is found to be in good agreement with semiclassical theory of the interaction of whispering gallery modes wi th excited molecules. The orientation of these surface entities is est imated through this comparison. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics .
