Polarization-dependent transient pump-probe spectroscopy reveals impor
tant effects of biexcitonic interactions on coupled optical excitation
s in semiconductor microcavities. We show that exciton-to-biexciton tr
ansitions can result in a significant increase in normal mode splittin
g of cavity-polaritons, in sharp contrast to effects of nonlinear opti
cal interactions such as band filling that reduce the splitting. A phe
nomenological model based on Maxwell-Bloch equations is developed to e
lucidate how biexcitonic effects contribute to cavity-polaritons. [S01
