Abstract
We have implemented the calculation of the x-ray-absorption cross sect ion for left-and right-circularly polarized x-ray beams within the loc al-density approximation by means of our all-electron full-relativisti c and spin-polarized full-potential linear muffin-tin orbital method. We show that the L-2,L-3 circular magnetic x-ray dichroism of Fe, Fe3N , and Fe4N compounds scales to a single curve when divided by the loca l magnetic moment. Sum rules determine the spin and orbital magnetic m oment of iron atoms in these ordered iron nitrides. [S0163-1829(98)073 15-9].
