Abstract
We report on electromagnetically induced transparency in a radio-frequ ency discharge of metastable helium atoms. We show that a large effect can be observed in spite of the discharge regime needed to produce th e metastable helium and in spite of its Zeeman degeneracy. We discuss the mechanism and the conditions for the observation of such a phenome non in a helium discharge.
