Mired convection heat transfer in a ventilated cavity subjected to a u
niform heat flux from the side is studied numerically using the Navier
-Stokes equations with the Boussinesq approximation. Flow fields, temp
erature fields, and heat transfer rates are examined for different val
ues of Rayleigh and Reynolds numbers. The proposed model is solved for
wide ranges of these parameters: 10(3) less than or equal to Ra less
than or equal to 5 x 10(6) and 5 less than or equal to Re less than or
equal to 5000. The relative height of the openings is kept constant (
B = h'/H' 1/4). The effect of these parameters on heat transfer and fl
uid flow will be examined, and useful correlations are proposed by con
sidering air as a working fluid (Pr = 0.72).
