Abstract
Generation cycles are population cycles with a period of roughly one g eneration. They have been observed in tropical pest populations and in laboratory populations. Theory suggests that they can arise both from intraspecific competition and from the influence of natural enemies, and ecological studies of populations of insects showing these cycles are starting to shed light on the mechanisms that maintain them.
