Abstract
It is shown that a class of finite Backlund transformations introduced by Loewner in 1950 in a gasdynamics context may be represented as com pound gauge and Darboux-type transformations. This result is used to c onstruct iterated versions of the Loewner transformations based on est ablished procedures in soliton theory.
