Abstract
The compound nature of the Gpi-1 loci among polyploid, including Sarat ovskaya 29 aneuploid stocks, and diploid Triticum and Aegilops species , the A, B, and D genomes donors of common wheat, was studied. Diploid species produced single and multibanded electrophoretic zymograms of glucose phosphate isomerase (GP1), namely three variants in T. urartu, the A(u) genome donor, and four in the goatgrass species of the Sitop sis section, the putative donors of the B and G genomes. Being monomor phic, Ae. tauschii, the D genome donor, produce the one-banded CC type . All thd studied tetraploid species carrying the AB genome showed the identical three-banded BD type. Polymorphism was observed among the A BD genome hexaploids, i.e., 1R(1B) wheat rye chromosome substitution a nd 1RS-1BL chromosome translocation cultivars or aneuploid stocks in c ommon wheat. The Gpi-1 bands were compared in diploid species and Sara tovskaya 29 nullisomic and ditelosomic stocks. Based on comparative re sults, it was concluded that in common wheat chromosome 1A has DD vari ant of Gpi-1 derived from T. ur ar tu and chromosome 1B derived from t he Sitopsis section species contains the BB variant.
