Abstract
The complex Cr(IV)(O-2)(2)(NH3)(3) shows an absorption band at lambda( max) = 390 nm which is assigned to a d sigma metal-to-ligand charge t ransfer (MLCT) transition from Cr(IV) to the coordinated peroxide. Upo n MLCT excitation the aqueous complex undergoes an intramolecular oxid ative addition of peroxide to Cr(IV) leading to chromate with phi = 0. 35 at lambda(irr) = 254 nm.
