Sg. Bronars et M. Famulari, WAGE, TENURE, AND WAGE GROWTH VARIATION WITHIN AND ACROSS ESTABLISHMENTS, Journal of labor economics, 15(2), 1997, pp. 285-317
We estimate employer-specific wage, tenure, and wage growth differenti
als using a unique Bureau of Labor Statistics establishment survey of
full-time, white-collar workers. Employer wage and tenure differential
s, conditional on worker characteristics, are substantial in these dat
a. Education, potential experience, and tenure are highly correlated w
ithin an establishment. High-wage establishments generally employ high
er quality workers, and the most skilled men and professionals typical
ly work with the most skilled women and nonprofessionals. There is sig
nificant variation in wage growth rates across employers, and high wag
e growth establishments tend to have longer tenure, all else equal.
