Abstract
Millimetre-wave optical signal generation by heterodyning two fibre gr ating lasers is demonstrated. The resulting beat signal has an extreme ly narrow linewidth (<50kHz), is continuously tunable (0-40GHz) and ex hibits negligible chirp under direct 2.6Gbit/s modulation.
