Abstract
The polarisation properties of a distributed feedback (DFB) fibre lase r are investigated experimentally. A birefringent phase-shift is induc ed by side illumination of the centre part of the lasing structure wit h ultraviolet (UV) light and it is experimentally shown that the biref ringence of the phase-shift is thr dominating effect controlling thr p olarisation properties of the laser.
