Abstract
The new compound ClO2SCF2CF2SO2Cl (1) is prepared by oxidative cleavag e of the S-S bonds in the cyclic polysulfides <(CF2CF2S3,4)over bar>, with chlorine and hydrogen peroxide. Compound (1) is converted in high yield to the bis(fluorosulfonyl) tetrafluoroethane FSO2CF2CF2SO2F (2) by reaction with KF. This work represents an attractive alternative t o the previously reported preparation of (2) by electrochemical fluori nation (ECF). (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
