Abstract
The reaction of Ru-3(CO)(12) with tetramethyltrifluoromethylcyclopenta diene at various ratios of the reagents was studied. Refluxing of Ru-3 (CO)(12) with a sixfold excess of tetramethyltrifluoromethylcyclopenta diene in octane in an inert atmosphere gave a complex, which is, accor ding to X-ray diffraction data, a dimer, trans-[Ru(eta(5)-C5Me4CF3)(CO )(2)](2). The reaction under the same conditions but starting from Ru- 3(CO)(12) and C5Me4CF3H in 2 : 1 molar ratio gave a hexaruthenium clus ter u(3)-H)(eta(2)-mu(4)-CO)(2)(mu-CO)(CO)(12)(eta(5)- C5Me4CF3)], whi ch was characterized by IR as well as H-1, C-13, and F-19 NMR spectros copy. According to X-ray diffraction data, an Rug tetrahedron, in whic h two edges are bound by additional ''bridging'' Ru atoms, constitutes the frame of this compound. This complex has one (eta(5)-C5Me4CF3) li gand, as well as one (mu(3)-H) and two (eta(2)-mu(4)-CO) groups.
