Abstract
A main tenet of the National Education and Prevention Program's approa ch is to integrate proper management of acute asthma into overall asth ma care. Accordingly, we maintain that emergency physicians should be aware of emerging chronic management strategies, especially newer trea tment regimens, so as to understand pre-ED treatments, provide optimum ED care, and make appropriate prescriptions and referral on discharge . This commentary discusses limitations to the new guidelines and iden tifies important areas for further study.
