Abstract
The direct transcription method for solving optimal control problems i nvolves the use of a discrete approximation to the original problem. T his paper describes a technique for changing the discretization in ord er to improve the accuracy of the approximation. An integer programmin g technique is used to minimize the maximum error during the refinemen t iterations. The efficiency of the method is illustrated for an appli cation with path inequality constraints. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, L td.
