An ideal solution is one in which the enthalpy of mixing is zero so th
at the only contribution to the free energy of mixing comes from the c
hange in configurational entropy when atoms mix at random. Regular sol
utions have a finite enthalpy of mixing but nevertheless assume random
mixing. Quasichemical models avoid this approximation of random mixin
g. The present study deals with an amendment to some of the equations
in the quasichemical theory for Fe-C solutions, making the equations,
Sol example, more reliable at large C-C repulsions. (C) 1998 The Insti
