Longitudinal deformation of magnetostrictive plate induced by resonanc
e transversal ultrasonic oscillations is studied on a sample of hemati
te single crystal. Excitation of the fundamental longitudinal mode of
frequency 81.565 kHz by modulated pumping of shear modes in the band 1
.06-1.16 MHz was observed. The experimental value of the modes convers
ion efficiency kappa(exp) = 12 ppm(-1) is in agreement with the theory
of giant magneto-elastic anharmonicity. Application of magneto-acoust
ic detection for driving of magnetostrictive mechanical systems is dis
