Abstract
Clayton and Jin have proposed that Al-26 in the early solar system was made by oxygen-rich cosmic rays through the C-12(O-16,x)Al-26(g.s). r eaction. To test their proposal we have measured the yield of Al-26(g. s). from this reaction using the activation method. We find that the y ield is too low to explain the Al-26/Al-27 ratio that has been observe d in carbonaceous chondrite meteorites.
