Abstract
Molten iron was made directly by using the carbon composite iron ore p ellets. These pellets were reduced rapidly in the high temperature atm osphere and formed a dense ''metallic-shell'' on its surface. This sta ge was followed by carburization which melted down the shell by loweri ng the melting point. The molten iron was clearly separated from slag. This result indicates the way for a new ironmaking technology.
